National parks represent for the most plants and animals the last retreat areas. In Cameroon 409 different kinds of mammal, 143 different reptiles, 849 bird kinds and 190 amphibians in 7 national parks are domestic. Some kinds are not discovered or before a discovery were already exterminated yet.
All species, e.g. the large apes and many other strongly threatened animal and plant types are to be still found in national parks of Cameroon.
By the interest and particularly by the visit of the national parks the vitality of these mechanisms is confirmed.

Outside of these mechanisms animals are usually free game in the true sense of the word.
Beside the large primates a long sad set of plants and animals is listed on CITES (Convention for International Trade in Endangered Species).
